"When I received the voucher I knew this was truly a God sent because I was runing on E".
On Thursday, November 7, 2024, the Boys & Girls Club of Chester (BGCC) partnered with Price Rite Marketplace, Feed the Children, and Butterball to host “Feeding 400 Families,” a large-scale food and essentials distribution event aimed at supporting local families in Chester, Pennsylvania. Held at BGCC’s center at 201 E. Seventh St., the event was a powerful example of community organizations coming together to tackle hunger and support families in need.
Nearly 400 families attended, receiving essential goods including a 25-pound box of food, a 15-pound box of personal care items, water, backpacks with school supplies, Price Rite Marketplace gift cards, and other assorted items. The partnership between BGCC, Feed the Children, and Price Rite Marketplace enabled each family to go home with enough food, supplies, and resources to help make life a little easier, especially with the holiday season just around the corner.
“Children cannot thrive unless their basic needs are met,” said Travis Arnold, president and CEO of Feed the Children. “A widespread issue like childhood hunger will only be solved when enough people work together. Partners like Price Rite, Butterball and the Boys & Girls Club of Chester are vital to our mission as we serve vulnerable communities.”
In addition to the support from Price Rite Marketplace and Feed the Children, BGCC benefited from the generosity of numerous community volunteers and leaders. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated's Tau Delta Omega Chapter offered their hands-on support, while state Senator John Kane, Chester Mayor Stefan Roots, Chester Councilmen Fred Green and Shy’Quan Davis, and Trish McFarland, President of the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, were also present, showing their dedication to uplifting Chester residents.
Reflecting on the event, BGCC expressed deep gratitude to all partners, volunteers, and participants who contributed to making the day a success. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of all involved, over 400 families in Chester were supported with essential resources, helping to address immediate needs and strengthen community ties.
BGCC encourages community members to stay connected by exploring upcoming events and volunteer opportunities, which can be found on their website. Those interested can also subscribe to the BGCC monthly newsletter for regular updates at www.boysgirlsclubchester.com.
